Saturday 3rd September sees our annual Harvest Home Auction upon us once again, and, as last year, we’ve got tip-top auctioneer Terry Tripp to do the officiating. Lucky old us.
Starting at 8pm, all proceeds will be going to Hawkesbury’s Senior Citizens Fund. Any surplus horticultural items we can sell at the event will be gratefully received.
And talking of horticultural items, I’m delighted to announce that our PROPS Market Garden is now supplying prize winning produce!
At last Saturday’s 131st Hawkesbury Horticultural Show, PROPS came third with their potatoes, many thanks to Keith and Josie for preparing and entering them – roll on next year…
The recent Hawkesbury Open Golf Championship, held annually on the first Saturday in August, went down a treat and a good time was had by one and all.
A superb £450 was raised for PROPS with a roughly equal amount raised by the BBQ and raffle teams, topped up with a generous £100 from the HOGS committee of Gnome, Ross, Shaun and Biggus Dickus (who also kindly supplied the charcoal).
Huge thanks to Vera’s boy Simon, Mr Brightness and his bevvie of beauties on the BBQ, and ‘Miss Parish News’ Fiona on the raffle.
This was on top of the £170 already raised for PROPS by Dilly and team on her BBQ a few weeks earlier.
The money will be invested in the new PROPS Market Garden at the rear of the Beaufort – feel free to check it out – another great effort by some really kind, generous, and talented people in the village.
Talking of which, tip top auctioneer Terry Tripp will be on hand again to oversee proceedings at our Annual Harvest Home Auction, this year on Saturday 3rd September, donations of produce not quite ready in time for the Hawkesbury Village Show will be gratefully received. Hammer start time 8pm.
At the Beaufort on Tuesday 13th September (at 8pm) is the Launch Night for the “Wulfstan Village Walk 2017” – a great chance to get fit and raise some money for your favourite local good cause – come along for details, all welcome.
Sunday September 18th we’re proud to be a ‘pit stop’ once again on this year’s Bristol 100 Bike Ride on behalf of the Stroke Association.
Finally, at the end of the month we hope to be hosting the Hogweeds’ annual Kilcott Experience
James Blackwell, son of Beaufort regulars Paul and Julie, is representing Great Britain at football in the forthcoming Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
What an honour!
Here’s wishing him and all the other British team the best of luck from everyone at the Beaufort – we’re rooting for you James …
What better way to celebrate a typical English summer but with Morris Dancing.
Huge thanks once again to Winterbourne Down Border Morris for brightening up a breezy night with some nifty moves.
Many of the dances were of their own creation and I must say quite brilliant, having (finally) had chance to sit down and enjoy them.
Roll on next year.
Many thanks to Rick for the pic’s.
Don’t forget two pub events either side of this weekend, Dilly’s Barbie Friday (22nd July) and Winterbourne Border Morris Monday (25th July).
The barbie starts from 4pm and the Morris Dancers from 8pm Morris Time.
Hopefully see you there, Landlord Mark.
The latest flowery feature for the Beaufort Arms is this venerable Concrete Mixer Planter by PROPS.
With plants kindly donated by ‘Painted Tongues’ (based on the Westerleigh Road in South Gloucestershire), our resident team of horticulturalists from PROPS did a beautiful job planting it up.
Some ten years ago the mixer was used to build the house it now resides outside of – its Lister engine still works!
For all of you anoraks out there, the mixer was built locally by Stothert & Pitt Ltd, Engineers – Bath – England, Established 1820, the model is a ‘3 ½ T’ (3 ½ C.F.T. Mixed Capacity Tilting Mixer).
If anyone knows when it would have been built please let us know.
Huge thanks to all involved in making it happen, especially Tim from Watts & Watts Builders for storing the mixer and getting it on site.
