One of the founders of Aardman Animation, Peter Lord, dropped by the Beaufort on Saturday afternoon and gave us the following message: – “I’m very happy Gromit’s got such a good home. Let’s hope the amazing weather keeps up, eh?”

A first for the Beaufort, professional theatre in our Function Room! ‘Fanny and Johnnie Craddock Cook the Great American Songbook’ played for two nights back in May 2013. Brought to us by the Show of Strength Theatre Company from Bristol, this was their first appearance in a country pub.

Preview night on the Thursday was followed by a sell out on the Friday. Local celebrity Richard Lewis (of Radio Bristol) attended the preview and said the performance was sublime. The two stars were Kate McNab and John Telfer and they truly lived up to all of their accolades, hilariously preparing a prawn cocktail for starters (prepared and served by us in the interval) and then followed by a chicken dish which again we served in the interval.
For the main course Lin and her team from the Beaufort prepared Coq-au-vin and it was superb (if I say so myself), this was then rounded off with Black Forest Gateaux which surprised the actors – when they came back on for their encore, muggins was taking their plaudits by mistake when he was only trying to shepherd in the desserts… (We only did two courses on the preview night).
Anyhoo, the whole thing was a huge success, with some of our customers saying that they’re going to see it all over again at the Hen and Chicken in Bedminster.
Brilliantly well done Sheila and Co. – roll on the next one.
Some Gromits that will be about, in and around Bristol, in July and August 2013 …. Don’t forget …. There will also be a Gromit at the Beaufort from 1st July …. See www.gromitunleashed.org.uk/
For the weekend of the 18th / 19th May 2013 we’ll be having Cotswold Spring Old Sodbury Mild and Severn Vale’s Monumentale.
Every year now, BADRAG put on a mild Trail and the gang will be visiting the Beaufort between 3pm and 4.30pm on Saturday 18th 2013 for some of our areas finest.
We’ll be putting on some sausage and chips to help soak some of the ale and if Dursley and District CAMRA would like to make an appearance on the Saturday afternoon (or over the weekend) that would be great.
On the weekend of 3-6 May 2013, a team of staff from the Children’s Cardiac Unit at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children will be attempting to walk the entire length of the 102-mile Cotswold Way from Chipping Campden to Bath.
Many charities use the Beaufort on their way to greater things, the group are walking through soon and their chosen charity (bearing in mind the Beaufort’s imminent involvement in the ‘Gromit Unleashed’ campaign) is particularly apt.
Please look out for them and if at all possible support the cause – BCH’s Grand Appeal

This week we received the sad news that our Ace Auctioneer Tony ‘Wilky’ Wilkins had passed away. Tony and landlord Mark always used to finish the annual Harvest Home auction with a rousing chorus of “the Old Rugged Cross” ("Wilky's" favourite). He will be sadly missed.
A small tribute to "Wilky" in photos from our 2011 Harvest Home auction:
