“Although a little dreary, the weather didn’t hamper the efforts of Chipping Sodbury’s Rotary Club with their annual ‘Along the Edge’ charity walk on Sunday 2nd September.
With two 4 mile circular walks to tackle, some of the walkers were up at an unseemly hour and, thanks to Hawkesbury Cricket Club, the overflow car park was used from 8am.
The aim of the walks is to raise money for Sodbury Rotary’s twin pet charities, the Kingswood based Jessie May Trust and their End Polio Now campaign – and any charity the participants feel strongly about.
As ever, the Beaufort supplied the Barbie and all proceeds went to the charities concerned. This year the total was an amazing £200 and huge thanks must go to Dave Brightness and his able band of supporters, Fiona, Dick, Daphne and Marlene.
Some of the charcoal kindly came from Neil Lodge of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust whose first product is Lower Woods made charcoal. An excellent way of using an asset on our doorstep and good for everyone concerned.
Hawkesbury Show donated 149 surplus rolls from their event – many thanks once again.
Thanks also must go to our customers who so generously consumed vast quantities of burgers, sausages and bacon, all beautifully cooked.
On a personal note, Lady Hyacinth, the doyen of all our fund raising, was absent through illness, so may I wish her a speedy recovery.
Roll on next year!”
